The beginnings of proper Waacking!

For those of you that are on my Facebook, you may have seen that I (Rosina!) have started taking a Waacking class. BDC has just begun introducing extra classes to its already mega packed timetable, and I have been able to schedule this into my timetable!

I have touched on the 'basics' of waacking before in London intertwined with other styles, as well as taught the basic basics to Pic N Mix one week but never done a whole class solely on Waacking!

So what is Waacking??  I hear you cry!

Waacking is a dance form that emerged from Los Angeles around the disco era and is presently going through a resurgence in night clubs in America and Europe by collectives such as the Imperial House of Waacking (IHOW) and the Waacktitioners. It was Soul Train in the 1970s that brought waacking to the public's attention when dancers like Tyrone Proctor would swing their arms wildly in time to the music. He later on formed the group The Outrageous Waack Dancers with another pioneer of the style Jody Watley of pop group Shalamar.

Waack dancing is recognisable by it's femininity, flailing arms and vogues (pausing while dancing to pose), using the arms hit every beat in the music to extenuate musicality.

The Tyrone Procter came in to watch the class tonight, as his pupil International Waacking Champion Princess Lockaroo is who teaches the class.

It is a very intense form of movement, flexible shoulders as well as very fast movements combine to create a very effective routine of movements that completely emulate the musical beats...well are meant to...!

Heres the beginnings of my waacking...

And here's how its really done!
